Tony McAleavy has recently completed a book on the subject of witchcraft in the 17th century which has a significant focus the persecution of so-called witches in Somerset and the role of Joseph Glanvill, Rector of Bath Abbey, as a witchfinder and a propagandist for those who wanted to hang women for witchcraft.
Glanvill’s books on the authenticity of witchcraft were read with great interest in New England and contributed to the witch craze in Salem in 1692.
