Pipehouse Lane was closed by an emergency order by Bath and North East Somerset Council (BANES) on 30 September 2024 until March 2025, as part of a package of measures to mitigate the impact on the Freshford and Limpley Stoke due to the closure of the A36.
The reason was mainly to provide a safe haven for Ralph Allen students walking to the lay-by on the A36 to meet the Centurion Bus taking them to school in the morning and collecting them in the evening.
This closure has had a negative impact on many residents living on the west side of the A36. Several residents have written to the Parish Council asking for the closure to be reconsidered.
The evidence is that few if any Ralph Allen students are walking up Pipehouse Lane, a few use Ashes Lane. Other students come from Midford Lane, so the closure is of no value to them.
In view of the limited value of the closure, Freshford Parish Council would like to re-open Pipehouse Lane well before March 2025.
